Have you ever sat there and stared at your closet for a good 10 minutes thinking there was absolutely nothing to wear and then resort to grabbing the same t-shirt you wore two days ago and a pair of jeans lying on the floor?
As fun as it is to shop for new clothes, if your closet isn’t supported by the basics, that you feel good in, it can feel like a complete war zone trying to get ready in the morning. As summer is winding down, we suggest reevaluating the clothes you have and then check to make sure you have these wardrobe staples on hand. No matter your style, these five items can be tailored to for fool proof mixing and matching in all seasons.
#1- Back in Black
First up! This one’s pretty self explanatory but it’s worth mentioning. Having a basic dark tee means you can dress an outfit up or down in the matter of seconds. Tuck it into a pair of dark wash jeans and a fun chunky heel for a night out on the town or do a french tuck for a more casual look. A black tee is essentially a blank canvas. Make it your own with statement jewelry, a fun jacket or some cheetah print sandals.
#2- A Graphic Tee
Another fun basic to add to your closet is a neutral colored floral graphic tee that reflects your personality but is also subtle enough that it can be layered or paired with other prints. The Bloom Baby Bloom tee is definitely one that follows these guidelines. And just look how cute!!
#3- A Textured Button Up
Having a good button up top ensures that you have a little something that will be there for you at any stage of life. Button ups are nursing friendly, and can be styled so many ways it’s basically a disservice not to have one in your closet. The key is to find one that fits well and that can be also be used day or night. Again, find a more neutral tone in order to match unique pieces you already own but a little texture never hurt either. Finding one with a little lace detail or a tie at the sleeve is a fun way to mix things up.
#4- Add A Stripe
Now this! This is a must have. A colorful striped tee is perfect for pattern mixing and is perfect for adding a pop of color when layering. Going back to standing in your closet, this is something you can pull of the hangar and run out the door any day. Look for a stretchy ribbed tee with stripe detail or something nice and soft so that you will get maximum use out of it.
#5- The LBD
You’ve heard of it. The little black dress. It’s been a staple for years. Even if your style may not be “tight or little” like it’s often advertised, having a simple black dress is perfect for summer but can also be quickly transformed into a fall outfit with a pair of patterned tights and a cute sweater. The most important thing is that you find a dress you feel your best in whether that’s something tighter fitting or a more casual black dress. Consider the different styles, length and cuts and find something that most works around your lifestyle and the different events you would wear it to. If you hate layering or know you won’t wear it because you have to wear something under it, just keep looking! There’s one out there.
#6- Dark Wash Denim
Having a quality pair of jeans you love is simply put, a must. This may take some time to find. A wise lady used to always say, you have to try on 12 pairs of denim until you find the one just right for you. Maybe it won’t take you 12 but take some time to invest in a pair that really fits you and accentuates your features. Look for details you love. This high waisted, dark wash denim offers all the cutest details. A raw edge hem and the button detail on the front are all the rage right now and probably won’t be going out of style anytime soon. One denim brand we swear by is Kancan! They are always stretchy and comfy and so flattering on any figure.
